Ping Pong Tournament
Welcome to the Zemblan Ping Pong Tournament award ceremony. There are many interpretations of Pale Fire by Vladimir Nabokov. The team with the most clues to prove their interpretation wins the game. Four different interpretations played today. The interpretations were a madman in an insane asylum, John Shade’ s morality, Hazel and Kinbote, and a team of three pairs. Even though we had a close game today, there was a clear winner.
Although it played well, Shade exploring his morality and the different sides of himself will not be receiving the trophy tonight. This being written as Shade exploring his life means he was reminiscing on his boyhood, adolescents, married life, and old age. This is why poem had been written in four cantos, one for each stage in John Shade’ s life. Since Shade is getting older, he is reminiscing on his life because he is getting closer to death and is trying to remember everything that happened in those four stages of his life. Shade has worked on campus until his death. As well as reminiscing, he is thinking of what things he could have done and what he would have been if everything in his life did not happen the way it did.
