had issues with meat on a plane. The other first round loser was Team Lifetime. It is noted that the poem is four cantos long, which can signify four different stages in Shade’s life, as each one has a different feel to them (14). This is started off by the commentary saying, “we can visualize John Shade in his early boy- hood” (73) to describe the beginning of the poem. This continues when the commentary says, “John Shade took a fresh card” (202) not only to show in the poem where he added another note card but, in his life, where he started over again, a new page or chapter in his life per say. Near the commentaries end, it details the end of Shade’s life with “the tide of the shade reached the lau- rels” (290) showing how the end of the poem might be the end of the poet’s life. The Championship game concluded with the scores 21:19, 16:21, 25:23 and the loser this round being Team Hazel & Kinbote. This team put up quite a fight against Pairs but was unable to beat Madman despite the compelling evi- dence they could’ve. It starts off by saying Hazel isn’t the prettiest during her “awkward age” and is told “less starch, more fruit!” (44) which can show how she could’ve pulled off being a man if she wasn’t too feminine and also, Kinbote is a vegetarian which could’ve started by people telling him/her to eat more fruit 19
