Here he has created a purpose built painting studio, one to take advantage of the wonderful climate, where he can paint under a blue and sun filled sky. When Tubes first featured the artists work it was within an abstract special. At that time Alan had been creating ‘Formal’ abstractions, using squares, oblongs and other geometric shapes as a base for his unique colour sense. The finish was always immaculate with a cold wax ‘buffed’ on the oil paintings, this was to gain a silk like finish. Recently He has been creating work influenced by his island retreat of Lanzarote and the whole aspect of his work has changed. Nature once again demonstrating the power of natures influence over humans. These new works are still ‘abstract’ in feel, but they are also quite real and exist. They are representing the shapes and the rich colours of the island, where he now works and lives, for most of the year .
