I awoke fairly early on Saturday morning
in anticipation of the arrival of my ride
to Swynnerton (England). Once I had
checked, double and triple checked I had
everything, I could relax and wait for the
knock on the door.
11am: A knock of thunderous proportions, shaking the flat and sending the
door caving in. I thought I was either
being raided or Hagrid had arrived. OK
I’m exaggerating. There was a knock on
the door and I called out, “Come in” (For
those not in the know I am wheelchair
bound and answering the door can be
tricky). Enter my lift. The Famous McGassy Clan (or is it Infamous?) Craig, Cheryl,
Megan and Finlay had all turned up, fully
suited and booted ready for a weekend
of being around paintball. Once a quick
lesson on how to collapse the chair to its
smallest size was over, I was packed into
the car with my kit, and with everyone on
board, we were off….. North Versus South
we come.
Camp Swynnterton is roughly an hour
from where I live, and also a site I had
visited during my time as a cadet in the
ACF and CCF. We arrived safely and once
at the gate was I shocked to know the
gate guard knew my name before it was
even mentioned! He handed me a white
envelope with my pass and the map. After we followed the escort vehicle to the
car park were then ushered to a disabled
badge parking bay. And unloading of kit
bags began.
This was the first time I had ever attended a paintball game of this scale... definitely the first time I made NvS and boy
what a thrill. As I was being kindly pushed
through the traders expo by Megan towards the registration tent, we barely
seemed to get anywhere near 10 yards
before someone would 6
