In the snowy cold of Northeastern Maryland,
the Allies and Axis faced-off again with Steven
“Pretty Lou” Ruiz leading the Americans against
David “Goose” Stanley and his German forces.
Like they did in 1944, tanks played a major
role in the Battle of the Bulge, but it wasn’t Shermans facing off against Panther, Tiger and King
Tiger tanks: rather a handful of paintball tanks
roaming the OXCC battlefield helping their
teams push, hold and re-take key portions of the
field. From midday onward it was clearly the
Americans who were running the show. Though
the firefights at various portions of the field
were intense with dozens of players battling at
any given area at any given time, most of the
fighting was at mid-field or well into German
territory. The referees at OXCC worked hard
throughout the cold December day, roving the
field keeping players safe and making calls,
while off the field, hot food was available and
push-button, high-pressure air fills were available without a line throughout the day. The 300
players at the game were joined by the crew
from Behind the Bunker, who braved a harrowing trip south from Canada for the event, Mark

Pagan of Help Keep Paintball Alive and even
Gino Postorivo, owner of Valken, who stopped
by to look in on things at OXCC.
By the end of the day’s play, the snow had
turned to icy rain and the guns fell silent. After
an enjoyable day’s battle it was a clear-cut
American victory at the 2013 OXCC Battle
of the Bulge. With an improved playing field
packed new bunkers and buildings, 4500 air
fills with no waiting, great Valken paintballs,
hot food, convenient staging and a dedicated,
hard-working referee staff, the game ended a
great success and should be on any East Coast
player’s must-attend list for 2014! For more
