The quarter finals consisted of only 18 teams , 6 brackets of 3 teams each , and was played on the mounds field . Only the top team from each bracket would move on to the semifinals . The quarter finals shined with legendary names such as All Americans , Avalanche , Infamous , Fraction and many more . Spectators lined the mounds field spectator area to watch these top teams duel for supremacy . The movement on the field became much more tactical and methodical , with some games ending in no flag pull or hang . This nail-biting action was just what the crowd wanted . The semifinals , fought out in the woods , saw the cream of the crop duke it out amongst themselves .
Two brackets of three teams each . The teams that made it to the semifinals were Farside , All Americans , Saberwolves , ac Empire , Avalanche and Saints , a classic paintball lineup if there ever was one . The competition was getting tougher , of the six games played in the woods only two ended with flag hang and pull . Out of these six games Farside and ac Empire rose to the challenge and would beat out their competition to move onto the Finals . These two teams would face each other on the Hyperball field , with the biggest spectator area available , they had a big crowd to please . These two teams fought hard on the hyperball field and were able to keep each other at bay , neither teams ’ flag was pulled in the finals . It was a long weekend for both teams , they fought harder and played longer than any of their competition
but in the end only one would be crowned the champion .
The Pittsburgh Open Classic is the home of throwback paintball , a mechanical parade . As in any big event it ’ s not just the people that host , plan and manage the event that make it a success , but the people that attend it as well . Considering the crowd that showed up for the thrill of retro competition and the people that hosted / managed the event it was a huge success . Thank you to the men and women that spent over a year planning , stressing and working to put on such an amazing tournament , we are all very excited to see what will be accomplished with this tournament for years to come . Thank you to the referee staff and photographers for taking your personal time to work this event and for putting your bodies and equipment on the line for the players .
Thank you to the players that put in months of planning and work , that left everything they had on the field and that will not stop improving for years to come , you are the ones that make these events so thrilling and such an emotional rollercoaster .
