After losing to Tampa Bay Damage at the NXL Lone Star open , Edmonton Impact needed to attend this event in order to win . With the highest open score being counted Impact needed a first place to inch towards the season title . Damage and Impact now sit tied for third in the series race with a 5th place finish , a 7th place finish , and a 1st place finish . Chasing Dynasty , who have won the last 4 majors in a row , being the goal for any team this year .
Walking away from the X-ball fields felt like going to a whole separate tournament . NXL has been including 7 man mechanical divisions throughout the year , and Capital Edge Paintball has two great fields for it . Teams played 8 prelim games starting at 10AM on Saturday with 4 of them being on a hyperball field , and 4 being on a mounds field . With 11 teams in the 7 man division the games went well into the day and ended during sunset . Sac Street Fighters pulled out the win as the sun went down on their home turf .
Calling Sacramento , and CEPP their home must have felt great to take home the first place trophy for a few of the divisions . Sacramento DMG affiliate teams were able to wrap up wins in D3 Xball , D4 Xball and D3 5man . While Bay Area Bad Company was able to take the win in D5 5man .
In the end , the NXL Golden State Open was a welcome stop , and any team debating it in the future should go . The ease of travel , airport proximity , and distance from Sacramento proper would make any team excited .
