Chesapeake Sports Park in – wait for it – Chesapeake , Virginia played host to six professional paintball teams October 31 and November 1 , 2020 for the GoSports Virginia Pro Paintball Exhibition ! More accurately a hard core grinder of a pro scrimmage for the rapidly-approaching NXL 2020 World Cup that also happened to be webcast by GoSports , the event saw teams from around the Midwest and Northeast come together to figure out the busy World Cup 2020 field layout in a split-deck , tournament-style environment complete with refs willing to throw flags and all the usual ups and downs that come with serious tournament paintball !
Teams making the trip to Chesapeake for the Virginia Pro Exhibition were a mix of new and seasoned players and teams all looking to use the event to dial in their understanding of the World Cup layout and use the opportunity as a springboard to World Cup success . These teams included the always entertaining New York Xtreme , Columbus LVL , Aftermath , the
ML Kings , the TMG Outlaws and , of course , the home team , NRG Elite . The field used for the event , obviously featuring the World Cup layout with its strong Dorito side , big middle bunkers and diamond-fifty snake , was generously turfed and perfect for the occasion , surrounded by paved parking and covered pits along with elevated viewing , ideal for the GoSports crew , who set up the wire rig above the field for great shots while Rich Telford did the commentating with a little help from his friends .
The event proved a great opportunity for all the teams in attendance , as all agreed that while practice is , of course , critical to a team ’ s understanding of the field they ’ ll compete on at the upcoming event , nothing is quite so useful as a full-blown , tournament-style scrimmage with referees motivated and willing to get into the action , cross the field to check players and , if necessary , get flags in the air and pull players out if they earn penalties .
