Enter the Citadel
As if commanding against one opponent was not enough, Red Feather introduced a third faction: The Citadel. This ruthless group is far more than a spoiler. They have their own town, merchant, and guards, as well as a set of twenty missions that tie directly into the fortunes of both main teams. Sometimes the Citadel works with Red or Blue. Other times they betray them outright. Their influence guarantees that alliances never last long.
The Citadel stands out visually as well. Each member wears custom postapocalyptic armor adorned with a LAW badge. These suits are not just for show. Armor plates make them immune to certain hits, and explosives often fail against them. This added resilience makes every encounter with the Citadel a dangerous gamble.
War Rigs on the Field
Every wasteland needs its engines of war, and at Mad Max X, both teams command their own War Rig. These motorized vehicles roam the field, blasting through defenses and shifting the battle lines whenever the action stalls. The rigs bring overwhelming firepower, but they are not invincible. LAW rockets, car bombs, and grenades can cripple or destroy them, giving players on foot the chance to fight back.
The War Rigs also come with their own mission sets. Commanders must weigh the benefits of unleashing their vehicle for offense against the risks of overextending and losing it. The rigs embody the balance at the heart of the event: power always comes with vulnerability.
Job Roles and Immersion
What makes Mad Max truly immersive are the specialized job roles available to players. These roles add flavor, complexity, and realism to the battlefield.
Gas Guzzlers carry a heavy, hand-crank siphon pump to complete fuel and water objectives. They must haul the pump to locations, siphon real liquid from 55-gallon drums, and transport it in containers to finish missions.
Dirty Scoundrels are lock-pickers, tasked with opening real locks to retrieve ammo boxes and supplies.
Car Bombers roam the field with Molotov cocktails, seeking the enemy War Rig.
Black Hands act as mechanics, defending their team’ s War Rig with toolboxes and repair skills.
These roles blur the line between scenario and simulation, pulling players deeper into the wasteland experience.
Off-Field Activities
The chaos does not stop when players leave the field. Red Feather fills downtime with unique activities that keep the immersion alive.
The Thunderdome pits one fighter from each team against each other in foam weapon combat, with points on the line.
