many they had left, instead of the mental math of past years. I guess it was pretty stylish too.
A lightsaber tournament was held a few hours into the game, while the regular missions were running. I had to choose my warriors carefully, since I’ d be taking players off the field. The resource management, common in this game, raised the stakes more than a pre-game or lunchtime tournament would.
The second half brought a turbulent change. Commando ' s two castles are just over 100 ft apart, with entrances facing each other. For two hours, these were our spawns, with a secondary slapstick placed in the middle. The Rebels capitalized quickly and we fought close range for the whole 2 hours. Fortunately, we had the new back exit. With guards on the upper levels, I used the new exit to keep my numbers hidden and my missions running. The Yetis left us to hammer each other and wandered off to a location far, far away, where they could spring another trap with their shining Mandalorian.
On the second day, we started from the west end of the field, where Zac and Randall had rebuilt a sheet metal building, adding storage tanks and netting to make it a large command and rest space. The prop missions for the second day involved only one prop: an oil barrel, painted red. My team had to get the barrel to a certain pallet on the field, at which point the ref would give us a new location. The mission amounted to rolling a big, dumb prop around the field during a heated battle which, frankly, was a lot of fun. The pallets were spread to the corners of the field and I don’ t know how, but we managed to hit them all. When a squad called in saying that they had gotten the barrel to the pallet closest to enemy spawn, I couldn’ t believe it. I had to ask my base ref to confirm and the players in my HQ literally cheered. Likewise, the enemy team was somehow able to get their barrel to a spot not 200 feet from my base( just a little embarrassing).
In most games, slapsticks are scored every 15 or 30 minutes. Here, they were scored once an hour and only one was active at a time. The active stick wasn’ t known until an hour beforehand. This meant no early jockeying for position. It also meant that, if the Rebels held the 1pm stick at noon, I had a full hour to take control. Considering resources, it meant that I could send a hold team to the slapstick to keep the Rebels from
