Team USA breezed through round one with three straight 4-0 shutouts . Great Britain , and Belgium and made quick work of their three opponents . In the quarterfinals Team USA won again , 4-1 this time over Poland . Belgium shut out Portugal 4-0 , Great Britain survived a scare from Mexico winning by a single point and Germany , a perennial powerhouse took down France , also a top tier international team , 4-2 .
In the semifinals Great Britain and the USA keep pushing forward with decisive wins over Belgium and Germany respectively . In the Men ’ s Open Xball finals Great Britain finally met their match . It was a specular showing by the Brits all event long , but for this Nation ’ s Cup , the finals were the end of the line . Team USA 4 , Great Britain 1 .
The UPBF Women ’ s Open , another highly competitive Nation ’ s Cup event got off to a great start with 8 teams here in Dreux . The USA women got off to a brilliant start sweeping their three games , pleasing their rather large and solid coaching staff which includes again , Anthony Vitale and Lori Miller and others . One of those “ others ” was Andrea Michelle Martinez , a solid player in her own right who had surgery on her Achilles a few years back and continues to help grow the program on and off the field .
Team Norway , Team France and Team Great Britain each won two of three first-round games . Incidentally Great Britain , coached by the one and only Ainsley Baddeley with Kelvin Ian Gaffney and Ben Gillingham , were a team on everyone ’ s radar as a top contender at this event .
