I probably shouldn ’ t be writing about an illegal event I attended at an undisclosed location , but here we are . Welcome to the hidden world of Outlaw Paintball — a throwback to a time when the sport was more underground and raw . Honestly , I ’ m concerned that sharing my experience and photos might attract unwanted attention to these clandestine gatherings in Southern California . The fear is that increased exposure could lead to their downfall , making these events victims of their own success .
Planning for these gatherings takes place in a private Facebook group ( and no , I won ’ t reveal the name ). Meeting places and times are carefully coordinated , with attendees instructed to avoid wearing any paintball gear and to keep their markers hidden . To minimize the risk of discovery , we usually carpool in two vans to the site , avoiding a cluster of parked cars that could give away our location . These events often involve a short to medium hike , requiring participants to carry their gear in . Since there are no air refills available , we stick to using mechanical or pump markers .
