One thing can be said year-over-year of the POC : the fields at Urban Assault never , ever disappoint . Weather did play a factor , of course . The mounds field of legend was muddy due to rain , with some trenches becoming a soupy mess . The woods fields were fairly overgrown this year , limiting visibility and slowing the pace of games . But the hyperfield played perfectly , and brought some of the best battles of the weekend .
And although the event has scaled down significantly from the hundreds of teams it drew in its prime six seasons ago , the Pittsburgh Open Classic remains the place to be each year . Players still regard it as the crowning event of each season . The event where it is decided who will win the title of
“ Classic Champion ”.
Some people have blamed politics of all brands , industry shifts , and even the national economy . They are certainly all factors affecting the diminished attendance at ICPL series events this season . Others still have placed the blame of a heavy saturation of smaller , local 10-man events at fields throughout the country .
But a positive byproduct of the growth in the number of local Classic events this season is the opportunity it has provided for some many teams to mature . So , although the attendance at the national events has diminished a bit , the level of competition seems to be finding a bit more equilibrium .
