Competitive tournament paintball is not new to the Pittsburgh , Pennsylvania area . In fact , the very first year of competitive paintball , 1983 , the National Survival Game ( NSG ) held one of their events literally less than two miles from Urban Assault Paintball , home of the ICPL affiliate Pittsburgh Open Classic . And of course , the NPPL and PSP held events in the Pittsburgh area for many years . The International Amateur Open , one of the longest running stand-alone paintball tournaments ever , was played just north of Pittsburgh as well . And the event that started the classic movement comeback , Tim Montressor ’ s Iron City Classic , was played right on these fields — and this event is really an extension of the ICC . www . paintball . media
