Each team was equipped with treasure maps , shovels , and stars that led to promises of gold and riches .
Some of the very cool features on the field include a three story Mayan temple constructed of the above referenced drainage pipes , and a stocks and the gallows for “ torture ” scenes to obtain information from role players and the occasional opposing commanders .
The field was designed with multiple water features that create natural obstacles and barriers that the generals and field commanders utilized well in establishing field control and managing game flow . On the ground , players had the opportunity to try these features out , and make the decision to get wet , risk a snake encounter , and push through them , or figure out how to work around them .
And , as promised , Honu brought the literal bang to start things off , using an actual cannon each day to announce game start . We aren ’ t sure what was projected from that canon , but that information will likely be part of the legend and lore to accompany this game into the future .
Fitting of a pirate-themed event , the battle itself was tidal in nature with red and blue pushing line back and forth battle continuously for the two days of play . The Red Mauraders got off to a resounding lead out the gate , dominating field control , but as their ammunition and resources ran thin , Blue Buccaneers were able to capitalize and battled their way back to bring the game to a hairline point margin in the end . www . paintball . media
