This season , the series changed its format a bit , hosting only two majors : The season opening Sunshine Classic in Tampa , Florida , in February and this season closer . Instead of compiling multiple large-scale events , the league experimented with opening the opportunity for fields to host minor events across the US and in Playa del Carmen . So far , it seems to be working .
A better atmosphere could not have been asked for this season-ender at the Windy City Open . True to form , about a dozen or so vendors were in attendance , including the mechanical certainties Inception Designs and Planet Eclipse . These staples were joined by PowerHouse Competition Air amongst others , and a few food hucksters to round out vendors row nicely . Not surprisingly , the buzz all weekend was about two subjects : the refs and the food .
Alongside the quintessential BBQ truck , Michael Carmen from Reign out of the homefield Badlandz brought an Americanstyle hamburger truck which featured his risotto-based homemade pasta salad that those in attendance absolutely raved about .
To top it off , the paintball gods provided absolutely perfect paintball weather . A little rain rolled through Wednesday leading into the event which softened up the ground just enough for those iconic bunker slides without turning the place into a mud pit . And it stayed sunny and beautiful for the entire event .
More than 70 domestic and international teams came out for the event , including three lines from Armada of Mexico , two lines from the notorious Maple Leaf Chiefs , and the addition of the British Mayhem
