It seems like every year the NXL hosts their annual event in Chicago , our coverage begins with a brief Chicago paintball history lesson . And every year when I write that piece of history , I ’ m certain I ’ ll find a new angle next year . But here we are again and here I am again realizing that you can ’ t talk about a Chicagoland paintball event without it .
Paintball in the Chicago area began in early 1982 when the very first paintball franchises were made available by the National Survival Game , the one and only paintball distributor , game operator and supplier . A franchise was purchased by a local Chicago businessman who ran a small paintball ( then called Survival ) field in the northern suburbs of the Windy City . By mid-1982 Jeff Perlmutter and David Freeman would play their first game and within months , form the company that would later be known as Pursuit Marketing Inc ( PMI ). www . paintball . media
