WCPL Gold Rush Classic

P hotos By Erin Karrie

Jim Lively, the legendary event producer of the Lively Series and the famed Masters event, made a comeback in the woodsball scene this September. Hosting the Gold Rush Classic 7-Man in Mollala, OR, Lively came back with a bang.
The field chosen was a raw woodland, part of a decommissioned Girl Scout camp, and it had a classic woodsball feel like no other. Player’ s enjoyed a traditional tournament paintball experience, great weather, cook outs, and the hospitality that Lively’ s events were so well known for.
Although it was a seven-man event, which does not conform to the World Classic Paintball League format, it was adopted by the WCPL as a part of their series and supported by their major sponsors. Legends like Dan Colby and Tom Kaye were even in attendance.
To honor the event and bolster the rare appearance of Tom Kaye, Air Gun Designs donated a custom Automag to add to the massive bounty of items in the raffle. Dave“ Weez” Cook would win the beautiful piece and then hosted his own auction with it, donating the proceeds to the Ally Remembered Foundation.
Fourteen teams showed out for the competition, four of them coming in with series points. But it was three local teams- Rejexx, NW Rogue, and the Cockfighters- along with the Master Blasters who were making their first WCPL event of the season, who made it into the finals.
The Master Blasters would come out on top of the pack, putting them in 8th place on the series scoreboard. www. paintball. media
