The World Classic Paintball League( WCPL) Hate City Open brought together some of the region’ s most competitive paintball teams April 17-19 for a weekend of competition in Georgia at Tallapoosa Paintball. Players and fans from across the Southeast gathered to experience one of the season’ s most exciting tournament stops, showcasing the continued growth of competitive paintball and the passionate community surrounding the sport.
Twelve teams came out to face off in a classic 10-man event with five of them coming from the upper Midwest. Of note was the participation of three East Coast, heavy-hitters- The Misfits, Image, and Adrenaline- all teams that opted out of the ICPL competition in Southern California to attend this event.
Beyond the tournament itself, the Hate City Open highlighted the continued expansion of the WCPL and its influence on regional paintball. Events like this provide developing players with an opportunity to compete against experienced talent while helping newer teams gain valuable tournament experience. For many participants, the weekend represented more than wins and losses— it was a chance to grow within the sport, build relationships, and contribute to the paintball community.
The Hate City Open featured a hybrid field cultivated by Brannon Harris and Jacob Byrd that incorporated elements of the thick woods and non-traditional bunkers, but it was the size of the field that brought an old-school vibe to games and challenged the players and referees alike. The aggressive style of play forced players into tight spots and uncomfortable positions, testing the limits of their coordination, communication, gun skills, and integrity.
In fact, teams struggled to unlock the fields that flag hangs were rare across the board. Most games were decided on body count. With the tight scores, every kill counted, and it put intense pressure on the referees and producers to get every calculation right.
Coming out of the prelims, Image and APC Savages were actually tied and would play a second headto-head with the winner moving on to the finals
