Based on his years of knowledge about magfed games and players, Biga created something exciting to draw in the mag fed community.
While rare and still somewhat underground in their organization, magfed-only events are not new by any means. Throughout the year, popup events and meetups are held around the country and around the world. One of the hurdles for their organization is the use of less-lethal rounds, primarily First Strike Rounds, which are an article unto themselves. The rounds themselves are often a deterrent to major events as field owners are still working to iron out insurance liability riders for them.
“ The science and research supports that First Strikes are not any more or less dangerous than round balls,” Biga said.“ Contrary to what people say, they don’ t shoot harder. They just fly farther because their shape allows them to hold inertia longer than a round ball.”
Biga went on to say that research and schematics do exist and are readily available for field owners to submit to their insurance carriers, if the interest is there.
Beyond pushing the limits with the marketing and field support of Hells Survivors, Biga introduced technology that changed the way paintballers interacted with the game itself.
Ares Alpha, a product that has been historically utilized in airsoft games, was incorporated which brought a new dimension to this event. Using Bluetooth and cell phones, every individual player was able to generate a unique player profile that connected to the game hub. From there, they could use GPS modulation to see the location of other players on the field, tag points of interest, view the scoring, and watch in the live chat for intel drops. Point scoring was done by unique QR codes incorporated in flag stations and props, so scoring could be updated in real-time.
