There are paintball tournament locations that have a certain allure to them— sites or cities that have been in play for major events since the very earliest days of tournament paintball. Nashville, Chicago, Pittsburgh, Texas and Los Angeles are locations that date back as far as the National Survival Game( NSG) days of tournament paintball in 1983. Places Las Vegas, Orlando, New York and Boston have been hotspots for major events since the 1990s. This year’ s second event for the National Xball League took place at Bader Field, just minutes from downtown Atlantic City— a location that has become a somewhat regular spot on the NXL tour.
Although Atlantic City may not have the panache of an event played on the sands of Huntington Beach— or the history of Chicago’ s Badlandz, tournament paintball does have a 24- year history here, dating back to the 2001 NPPL Atlantic City Open when giants known as the All Americans, Ironmen, Aftershock, Avalanche and Ground Zero once roamed. And of course, Bader Field has become one of the regular venues for the NXL in recent years.
Bader Field, a former airport, may not be the greatest spot the league has ever held an event at, but it certainly ticks all of the boxes needed to run a 257-team pro / am paintball tournament. Hotels are close and relatively inexpensive; teams have a variety of airports to fly into; restaurants, gas stations and just about every amenity a person could want is available within minutes of the paying surface. And probably most importantly, nearly 80-percent of all Americans( the people, not the team) live east of the Mississippi River, making driving possible for many and short flights plentiful for everyone else.
The NXL Atlantic City Open’ s four-day schedule included the start of the trade show and team practices on Thursday, followed by a full day of games across 17 divisions Friday through Sunday. The vendor village and trade show was regularly busy on the weekend, with all of the regular attending companies present— GI Sportz, HK Army, Planet Eclipse, Infamous, Pro-Shar, Valken, Lone Wolf, Hormesis and dozens of others..
