The weather that the weatherman had predicted , never did show up , but the players actually did . It turned into a beautiful weekend for ball , and the shake up of registered teams actually served to balance the sides as well , at least from a numbers standpoint .
The game story dropped players into a 19-century historical timeline with a history lesson :
Following the election of President Abraham Lincoln in 1860 , South Carolina declared secession from the United States of America . Several Southern states followed , and together in February 1861 , they adopted a provisional constitution for the Confederate States of America . The rebel bombardment , and the subsequent Union surrender of Fort Sumter in South Carolina , sparked the American Civil War in April , 1861 . Then , on September 17th , 1862 in Antietam , Maryland our divided nation had its bloodiest day in American history with 22,717 casualties .
The game storyline was set in the weeks and months between those two major events . Missions were written as skirmishes for medicine , food and other basic supplies which could then be used to bolster or weaken forces . Players not only had to battle against one another for field position , but they also faced the threat of “ disease and starvation .”
