The newly formed World Classic Paintball League ( WCPL ) held its inaugural 2022 tournament the first weekend of February in Oroville , California at Combat Zone Paintball Park . The WCPL California Classic was produced by Fred Schultz and his company Flag Pull Productions , in conjunction with the league . Fourteen teams from around California and as far as New York , made the trek from all directions to play the event and test their woodsball skills against the likes of the Master Blasters , Ironmen and All Americans 2 .
The California Classic was played on one field which featured made-made bunkers and obstacles , natural obstructions , a fairly steep hill and plenty of area for spectators to watch the games . Early Saturday play showed a clear advantage from the “ far ” side ( or lower side ), where the overwhelming majority of wins came from . By late morning teams figured out that stalemating the upper side was best case scenario ( unless you were playing the Band or the West Coast Sharks ) and that ’ s exactly what happened the remainder of the day .
Day one of this two-day event saw the majority of the preliminary rounds played . Teams played either four or five of their first-round games on Saturday , day one and the remainder on Sunday morning . In the preliminary rounds the Master Blasters and All Americans were the only two teams to win five games . Five teams won three games and the West Coast Sharks advanced with only two wins .
