Who gets more credit for the resurgence of classic paintball ? You , Tom Cole or Tim Montressor ?

So many are responsible for the “ classic resurgence ” that no individual deserves the credit . Many have contributed in their own way to get us where we are today . Tom Cole and the UWL gave us the first real events that even resembled classic paintball . I wouldn ’ t consider it “ classic ” in the way it was played , with radio ’ s , rocket launchers , multiple objectives , respawns and a number of other scenario related rules and craziness , but it was ten-man and was played in the woods . The UWL had minimal success drawing teams , but it was a breath of fresh air for the OG woodballers to play again . In order to participate in the UWL I brought back the Master Blasters , specifically to play woodsball tournaments , support Tom , the UWL , The Woodsball World Cup and any other woods style events around the world to spread the word ... competitive woodsball is back !
Around the same time , I approached Jerry Braun and with a lot of pushback ( he as well as many others , including your editor , John Amodea , believed classic style paintball would never be accepted again ). I convinced him to host a ten-man mechanical two flag tournament , the Woodsball World Cup , at his field in NY and I went to work on the players and the industry . The combined efforts of myself and Tom Cole continued to promote the woods style of events hoping it would get some more traction and become popular again .
Tim Montressor . For several years I traveled to events like the PSP , NPPL , scenario games etc . preaching the gospel of competitive woodsball finally convincing Tim Montressor to attend the Woodsball World Cup along with the All Americans .
