After stand down, nine players from each team faced off in a series of 1v1, single-magazine matches. Most rounds seemed evenly matched, however Blue was winning 6-2 going into the final match: a melee battle between Coletti, armed with a plastic Ka-Bar, and Lowe, armed with two kunai. Both Generals ran to the snake and slid towards each other to strike. No one could tell who struck first. After a frame-by-frame review of the action caught by photographer Zac Arbuckle, the players had struck each other simultaneously, ending in a draw.
On Sunday, the Strike Harder team added a sudden twist. Each side’ s command would switch: Tobin would command AMS with Lowe as his second. Red command would fall to Sobotka, with Coletti as XO. The Red team was in good spirits despite the sting of the previous day. Sobotka announced to his team that they would“ make things exciting.” AMS was motivated as they took the short walk to today’ s base, readied, regimented, resolved, and reassured by Tobin of another successful day. Game-on was at 9:30 a. m.
HRA began their“ exciting” plan. They used the area-denial lockdown ability to seal the threestory tower in the center of the map, which contained a domination point. However, the young men of AMS’ s Spearpoint had already sprinted to the tower in their maroon yakuza suits, taking the point with their wakizashi, TiPX Uzis, and a loud“ BONSAI!”. The lockdown sealed them inside for 10 minutes, blasting Fetty Wap through a loudspeaker.
Tobin flexed the robot warriors of AMS, racking up points and keeping up pressure, but as they enacted their battle plan, HRA’ s strategy became more apparent. Sobotka’ s scheme seemed to be chaotically harassing AMS, spending points for airstrikes in between the free strikes given hourly to both teams. It was surprisingly effective. The Strike Harder referees hurried to clear the map as HRA crept forward behind the air power, using strategic drone strikes to snipe the Blue shield players.
