Commanding the HRA were General Vince Coletti and XO Kenny Sobotka. Their opponents leading AMS were General Justin Lowe( Coyotes) and XO Xavier Tobin( Strike First Magfed). Consistent with the storyline, Lowe brought a large number of uniformed Coyotes, among others. Coletti countered with a coalition of smaller teams and groups. The air was light and lively as players filled mags and checked scopes, eager to take to the field.
The game started promptly at 10:00 a. m. The fight was everywhere, immediately. The 5-ft tall covered trenches were locked in a hunched game of inches. The HRA tried to take back the POW huts occupied by AMS. Both teams held their lines on the land bridge. Every area was under attack in organized chaos.
Balance of Power is a mission-oriented scenario. The missions were located across the map. Teams jockeyed for position, waiting to see their next assignment. AMS was tasked early to destroy two sites using custom-built suitcase bombs with working electronics, keypads, and timers— everything but the explosives. Having a heavy presence in the POW camp, blue quickly detonated the first bomb. After a push through the covered trenches, spurred by Tobin with a megaphone, the second bomb was detonated: 550 points to the Blue team. Later, after a well-placed airstrike, HRA countered by lugging cargo containers between HQ and a forward position: 300 points to Red for the supply run. Every mission point earned with sweat. Due to the limited-ammo nature, magfed games are expected to have restrained fire. At Balance of Power, you wouldn’ t know it except for the whistle of first strike rounds.
An accurate description of Saturday’ s second half is“ asymmetrical.” The HRA might’ ve had too much of Apocalypse’ s spaghetti lunch, because they were outnumbered 5 to 1 at the 1:30 p. m. start. AMS set up an outpost on the land bridge to cut off the Eastern route. AMS swiftly closed off the Western border with a charge through the POW camp. They completed missions at will, including an infiltration of Lowe to direct his forces from the frontline. AMS’ s strategic placement of wagons of paint and air tanks allowed their forces to remain on the field and in the fight. Incredibly, HRA managed to complete a recovery mission under Blue’ s nose, but AMS’ s domination was obvious.
