“ I really liked the bridge demo element. Once a bridge was blown, you couldn’ t use it any more.” Sandman said.
A lot of players aren’ t excited about getting their boots wet on a normal weekend, but due to the hard rains before the game, the creeks were unusually high. To traverse them, players had a choice: get waist-deep wet in some cases, or find another bridge.
“ It worked really well for us. I don’ t want to share too much, but this was one that you could really get sneaky with,” he said.
Sandman gave a lot of credit to the hard work of the Axis commander John Lake.
“ For Lake’ s first Cypher game, he did a great job managing the mission load. And with only four core, die-hard teams, we had an uphill battle to fight, but he used what we had well. I felt like we were still in the fight until that late battle on Saturday,” Sandman said. One of those objectives that they managed to complete was a bridge demolition completed as time expired by AJ from the Pickled Hobgoblins. He would end up winning the Axis MVP for all of his efforts.
“ The nail in the coffin for us was the night mission in Paris with the nerve gas canisters, and I have to attribute that to the timing,” Sandman said.“ We held two of the four late missions, but by that point, we just didn’ t have enough bodies to get out there for those points.”
On Sunday they lost a lot of their heavy hitters, and that was filled in with walk-on players. Communicating the multi-phase missions to them wasn’ t really possible.
