The 2021 Woodsball World Cup event title is an ode to the original event , not a promise of a huge turnout like the NXL World Cup . In fact , the event only drew 13 teams , which was fine with Donaldson . “ All I care about are the smiles . That ’ s why I ’ m doing this . I ’ m not doing this for the money . I just want to see players having fun ,” Donaldson told me after the event . If fun was the goal the event was a smashing success .
And truth be told , this never felt like an old school competitive World Cup . In fact , it didn ’ t even really feel like an old school scrimmage . There were a number of players playing on two different rosters ; there were bystanders thrown on to teams that had players leave early ; and there were games delayed so teams could try to field a complete ten-man unit . But it was fun .
