At this point , the Automen were out of contention for a spot on the podium . So in their match up against the Ironmen , they opted to put on a show and ran a flying V that had everyone cheering on the sidelines . What they didn ’ t factor into the situation ( or maybe they did , and didn ’ t care ) is that APE and the Ironmen were separated by 91 points when that game started . So by throwing the game and only taking two bodies with them , the Automen essentially opened the door for the Ironmen to move on to the finals , and swindled APE out of a cash prize .
In the end , the All Americans held off the west coast rivals , defended their east coast pride , and took first place over the Ironmen .
After every event , players who were not standing atop the podium are bound to complain about the big three : the paint , the fields , and the officiating . On a really lousy weekend , they may even complain about the weather . But this year at WCPL New York , the weather was gorgeous , the officiating by the original Master Blasters was as even keel as a player in the woods could ask for , and as already stated , the fields were awesome . So , what ’ s left ? The paint .
One team paid the extra fee to bring their own paint : the tournament winners , the All Americans . They showed up with G . I . Evil yellow fill . There were rumblings that the shell on the Evil was more brittle than the Valken Pro and that the yellow fill was definitely easier to see than the green in the Valken paint , but at the end of the day , can you really attribute a tournament win to the paint ?
Some will .
