The Games

The Games

Out of the shoot it was obvious that the fields were playing to stalemates . With 16 teams playing 8 games each in the preliminary rounds , there were only 29 flag-hangs . Let me repeat that , 64 games , 29 hangs . The rest were an assortment of stalemates .
The UK Predators came to play with six maxes and 579 points in eight games . The Preds would be the number one seed heading into the playoffs . The All Americans also pulled six flags and would earn the number two seed with 560 preliminary round points . Beyond these two clear favorites , the Annihilators would be the third seed going into the playoffs with 421 points . Ape Gorillas ( 289 points ) and All Americans II ( 283 points ) would round out the top five after the preliminary rounds .
In the finals it was the UK Predators and Ape Gorillas playing to a stalemate and
the All Americans maxing the Annihilators . With two games left for each team , the All Americans held quite an advantage already . The Predators would max the Annihilators and the All Americans pulled a flag against the Ape Gorillas . This left the UK Predators needing either a flag pull and body count win or a max over the All Americans to take first place . From the All Americans perspective , all they needed to do is stalemate the game to take first place . The later is exactly what happened . The All Americans played a safe , defensive game and the Predators couldn ’ t dig them out . The All Americans get the stalemate and take first place !
It was a fun weekend in New York . A total throwback in time to when the game was played slower , more cerebrally and with less technology .
