The playing field , festering with uncertainty and anticipation , where momentum seemed to sway like a coerced pendulum , was staged for the finale . One last cataclysmic collision between these two titanic armadas would determine their fate , only one team , Marauders or Buccaneers , could bask in the eternal glory of victory . The final battle was the last savage onslaught . The pre-finale rules meeting had been accomplished as Solstice Law drew the line-in-the-sand , a line adorned with slapsticks for the taking . A final battle has become the storybook finish for almost every scenario paintball game , a last savage competition pitting might versus will , but CPX is what had made these strifes legendary . For years we have seen players come from all over the world to Illinois , Florida , California , Maryland , Michigan , Hawaii and the Carolinas for their opportunity to become a legend . They have fought through the swarm of players and paintballs to reach the fifty-yard line , just for a hope at stealing points and a possible win for their
team . Some players have even gone as far as dressing up like their favorite characters , donning extra clothing , eccentric clothing or , even the cringe worthy , less clothing to prove their courage and test their own might . Some had dodged , dipped , ducked , dived and dodged their way in just to come up short and prove that though they may be able to dodge a wrench , they cannot dodge hundreds of paintballs . As the cannon blast ripped through the air hundreds of pirates stormed the barbaric landscape towards three slapsticks and thousands of paintballs . Spectators lined the netting to watch this savagery as player after player paid for their attempt at glory . The Marauders came out with early stick slaps just to have them taken right back by the Buccaneers . Though it looked as though the red team was going to dominate the final battle as they had the entire second day , the blue team did not bow out , they did not cower , they advanced thoughtlessly like lemmings to a cliff .
