The command staff entered their command tents and bunkers to look over the game map one more time and to test their radios and await the game – on signal .
GAME-ON
On Saturday NATO started in control of 11 bases on their side of the DMZ and Warsaw attacked from 4 bases . At the start of the game , Warsaw forces attacked the NATO forces that had advanced just outside of their cities and observation posts to defend them at all costs . In the command centers both NATO and Warsaw commanders received reports of incursions by the other side ’ s Special Forces . This would prove to be a thorn in the sides of both commanders all weekend long .
From the promotors perspective the first hour of the game looked to be a stalemate with most of the fighting being at the DMZ . It ’ s always fun watching the First Strike sniper duels that take place just inside the net line with shots being made from Fire Base Rex to Firebase Bravo .
The day continued with attacks across the DMZ by determined Warsaw players , but the NATO forces held firm to the ground they were defending . I have to say that I was VERY impressed with the ability of all NATO commands and players to keep their eyes on the bases and points that would allow them to win the day . Not one time did they falter under withering attacks by Warsaw forces that included airstrikes , NUKES , and gas attacks . The game ended at 1700 with NATO in the lead for points for day 1 . Warsaw would have to battle hard on Sunday to win the game . It had been done in years past so hope was in the air .
