And having been to many of Spiro ' s games, I agree on both points. Another current scenario producer told me,“ The amount of roleplaying outweighed the shooting aspect of the scenarios, and that may be why Spiro ' s games never reached 300-400 players consistently.”
In just its first year, Blackcat produced 12 games, including five games in an eight-week span between March and April. Spiro and his wife, Karen“ Kitty” Mamaligas, worked tirelessly, traveling from California to Alabama, to New Mexico and Virginia, North Carolina, Missouri, Maryland, and many other states in just year one. In 2004, Debra Dion Krischke ' s International Amateur Open( IAO) added a scenario game to its schedule. And they continued for another eight years before Spiro retired due to some health challenges.
Spiro sadly passed in 2024 before we could hear more of his stories. But in a very short time space, he established himself in an elite group of producers. Before Blackcat Productions formed in 2002, there had only been four traveling producers: Wayne Dollack, Viper, MXS, and Blackcat.
