single elimination, and everyone would go back and wait. About halfway through, we would shoot off a pyrotechnic and from then on, it was open insertion until the end,” he said.“ The last song was always‘ Seek and Destroy’ by Metallica. We would start that at the exact point so that the last power cords hit right at the end of the game. People became familiar with the song, so they knew how long they had left. It was all pretty cool. I used to gear up and go out and play in the final battle to make sure people know that I was a player and not just a producer.”
He continued,“ The Slapsticks came around 1999. During the final battle, the primary goal was to have his many people in the center bunker, alive as possible at the very end. That was how the entire thing was scored.”
Charles“ Happy” Holton, a regular on the paintball scene since the mid-80s told me,“ Viper started out as a character player and evolved into one of the best scenario game producers. He will go down in history for inventing the Slapsticks.”
Within a few years, Viper took his scenario games on the road.
Viper Enterprises produced dozens of truly iconic events. The one with perhaps the longeststanding impact was Living Legends of Paintball, a yearly event that started in 2008 and continues today. The idea for Legends was the brainchild of Sean Scott, Craig Miller, and Paul Dagnino. Sean Scott remembered how the concept was berthed.
“ Paul Dagnino of Challenge Park Xtreme( CPX) chatted with me, I think at Chicago PSP, when I worked with Smart Parts,” Scott said.“ He wanted to do a scenario game, but he was already doing scenario games with Dollack. Later I was sitting with Craig Miller and Paul Dagnino and we were chatting about the good ole days and telling Paul all these stories. I said ' it would be cool to do an event to recreate the old days and try and get the older guys who stopped playing to play again. And do it in a scenario game. Paul said, ' like getting the living legends of paintball out playing again.' I said,‘ That ' s it. That ' s the event and we do it at CPX.'”
