Tiki ’ s Paintball in Tampa , Florida would be home to the event and provided a near-perfect venue with three massive hyperball fields , built seemingly to fit this occasion , and a mounds field that gave enough depth of coverage provide 10- man squads options to create a variety of spreads , thus bringing a level of competition comparable to the ] Pittsburgh mounds of lore .
Surrounding the event was a bit of mystery and many questions about the future of the ICPL , some speculating that this would be the series ’ swan song and finale . Perhaps the mystique drove some players ’ interest in the event with bucketlist motivation , and perhaps some jumped ship . Whatever the case , 56 teams showed out for the event , and there was a clear change in the landscaping among the teams .
On Friday , the five-man kicked off with heavy hitters showing out . Teams like Farside , Infamous , Image , Chicago Aftershock , Adrenaline , Fight Club and more .
Saturday , the 10-man began , with an equally fierce competition . In Bracket A . ac : Empire came out swinging hard on Saturday . The stacked squad of Mark Johnson , Logan Dyer , Will Donaldson , Carlos Cortes , and CJ Cantor had high expectations upon them , and they did not disappoint . They started their weekend putting a goose egg on Armada , and all eyes were on them as a favorite for the event .
The home team MVP Dark Ops was able to leverage the experience and speed of players Jake McDarby and Peter Gioello and their knowledge of the field to make an early jump over Infamous , Farside , and Armada respectively .
