Since its inception in 2019 , the International Classic Paintball League ( ICPL ) has held two events each season . For 2022 the league is holding six events : five “ Open ” events and two “ Majors .” Tampa , Cancun , Sacramento , Germany ( to be announced soon ) and London are the five Open events , while Maryland ( May , 2022 ) and Chicago ( September 2022 ) are the major events .
What ’ s the difference between Open and Major , you ask ? Teams that are playing for a shot at the season-ending title in both the Amateur and Pro divisions must compete in both of the major events . A team ’ s final ranking after each of the Majors will be tallied and that total will be added to the season ’ s leaderboard . In addition to the two required Majors , teams may play as many Open events as they like , with the highest score being added to the season total rankings . In the end it ’ s the two Majors and a team ’ s best Open score that will determine their place in the final 2022 leaderboard .
In terms of equipment , any style of marker may be used ( pump , mechanical , electronic ) and all electronic markers must be set to five balls per second or less .
The league ’ s opening event , the Sunshine Classic , had 21 Pro ten-man teams , 27 Amateur ten-man and 24 five-man teams …. Quite the showing for an Open event and the first event of the season where much of the country has been dealing with extremely cold weather , snow and rain .
