DJ “ Honu ” Fox – DJ runs the Living Legends Series events , which started out as “ Living Legends ” and has now morphed into 6-7 big games / scenario games played around the U . S . each season . Living Legends is in and of itself a legendary game and one of the must-attend events each season .
George Funkhouser - For the record , being “ bat- $ shit crazy ” doesn ’ t keep you off the list if you otherwise deserve to be on it ( see also Keith Idema ). Funkhouser ’ s Wolf ’ s Lair ( paintball field ) was many things in the early 80s , some of them good and some not so good . The not so good would include the actual name of the field . Wolf ’ s Lair was Adolf Hitler ’ s first Eastern Front military headquarters in World War II . The field ’ s home team name , “ Waffen Elite ,” was taken from the name of Hitler ’ s most elite guard . And then there was the ad for Wolf ’ s Lair in Soldier of Fortune Magazine ... you get the picture . But the good was very good . They had one of the first known castle fields and more structures , buildings , forts and other

encampments than any field in the world in those early days . Many well-known paintball players and teams got their start at Wolf ’ s Lair as well . Tier events drew teams the likes of the All Americans , PMI Piranhas , Delaware Delta Dogs , Grim Reapers and many others .
Ray Gong - Ray was the first legal paintball field owner in New Jersey , but that doesn ’ t tell half the story . From the time paintball began in 1981 and until May of 1988 , paintball play was illegal in New Jersey . Paintball markers were considered “ firearms ” by the Monmouth County Prosecutor ’ s Office and the State Attorney General ’ s Office . Ray challenged that assertion in court and on May 2 , 1988 the previous rulings on paintball markers were overturned and Gong ’ s Top gun Paintball opened to the public . Credit should also be given to Russell Maynard , Jessica Sparks ( an attorney and serious player ) and Bud Orr for acting as expert witnesses , helping Ray win his case .
