One of the more recent controversies you covered was the nepotism in the Paintball Hall of Fame . As an inducted member of the Hall of Fame , you now have an inside line . Is that changing ? If so , how ? If not , what changes would you recommend ?
Good question Cheryl . As an inducted member the only say I have / had was to put a name in the hat for the following year ’ s inductees . Other than that , my ideas , criticisms and thoughts have never been addressed by anyone officially or even unofficially . The changes I recommended and still recommend , are to put together a team of paintball historians , I even gave them a list , that would nominate each year ’ s possible class .
What was your most frightening paintball phone call ? And how did that turn out ?
When I was new to paintball publishing with PCRI , I got a phone call from Jeff Perlmutter from PMI . At that time PMI was the biggest paintball products distributor , among many other things , in the world , and Jeff was a founding owner of the company . Jeff was an intimidating guy in that he always shot straight and really didn ’ t try to make his words palatable . He called my office one day and said to me , “ You can write anything you want about me , PMI or anything I am associated with — but you better be right . Make sure your facts are straight and you ’ ll never have a problem with me .” After composing myself [ laughs ] I took those words to heart . We took PMI to task a few times and never had an issue with Jeff .
