Including the companies owned and major projects , what are all of the facets of media you have been part of ?
I owned PCRI , which was kind of a “ ragazine .” It was newsprint format , eventually with full color and a glossy cover . I then was the editor for Paintball 2Xtremes Magazine , Crossfire Paintball Magazine , Paintball Consumer Guide ( put out by APG ), Paintball X3 Magazine and now Paintball Media Magazine . So , I have published hundreds of print magazines and hundreds more digital magazines .
As I mentioned earlier , I worked for GoSports for two seasons , where I learned a lot about live video content , post production content , video editing and social media marketing — all of which I use daily now . After leaving GoSports , Brenda and I added a video / film component to the company called PaintballFilms . com . Our first release was The Complete History of Paintball , a three-hour documentary film . That project was so successful that we were able to buy professional cameras , lighting , audio equipment and so on . We now also have our own video studio .
Back in the mid-90s I also wrote a series of paintball gun instruction manuals called The Survival Guide Series . I sold more than 140,000 of those in about a 3-year span .
What was the appeal of media for you ?
Originally , I felt the game needed PCRI because much of the gear back in the 90s was such garbage . We set out to write honest reviews of products , even if they were negative . And in the end , we really influenced the industry and inspired change because of that honesty .
The appeal later was a little more selfserving . Since I wasn ’ t playing on the pro circuit any longer , I wanted to stay inside the nets , and I could do that with a camera , a notepad and a magazine to write for .
And now it ’ s just in my DNA . I love the game ; I love writing about it ; I love watching it and I still love playing .
