was special.“ We knew we had to move it out of New York. We simply ran of out space at my field( Survival New York),” Jerry told me in an interview for the 2000 film, The Complete History of Paintball. Space was one of the issues, location was another.
Survival New York was located about 75 miles from New York City and really in the middle of nowhere. The timing of the move was perfect as the game was growing at a pace that we ' ve never seen since. The top four in the Pro Division of the first Florida World Cup were All Americans, Ironmen, NAM Wrecking Crew UK and Aftershock.
The World Cup moved several times in the early years, including to a track of land off of Poinciana Road further east in Kissimmee. The event eventually moved to Disney ' s Wide World of Sports in 2003, then to a back parking lot in Disney, then to Fantasy of Flight in Polk City, about 45 minutes from Orlando, and finally to its new home across the street from the Gaylord Palms Resort in Kissimmee, where it ' s been since 2015.
What was once a“ successful” 16-team event, has turned into a 675 team worldwide phenomenon. The World Cup has grown so large that in all probability it will need a new, larger home by 2026 or 2027. www. paintball. media
