As the World Cup competition played out, prelim leaders included the above named teams, the Pittsburgh Pirates, Rebellion, and Raze. And, they were joined by a surprising Ikonik, a young team from Oregon that just rose out of the youth division and were joined by Jason Belling, Rodney Allen, and Jake Dean to compete in D3. They would finish first in their prelim bracket, and make a heroic run on Sunday where they put up a hard fight in the quarterfinals against NR Factory team. Outside of their weight class, Ikonik fell 2-0, but their effort was noble. If they can stay together this offseason, this team has great things ahead of them.
The quarterfinals also saw Gulf Coast Ragtag upset New Jersey Filthy in an absolutely furious 3-1 fight. They then went on to upset KC Sports Complex in the semis as well. Coming in as the underdog against NR Factory, that is where their poetic run ended. NR proved their dominance and shut down the Ragtags 2-0 for gold. In the opposing match of the set, AG Knights defeated KC Sports in an absolute nail-biter for third place. That win earned the Knights enough points to hold on to a second place ranking overall.
