Spreading the Love Around
The Women ’ s Pro Division certainly had some major hurdles to overcome from the gate .
At its inception , the purpose of the league was to engage women in the sport in general , and overall , that seems to have been a successful venture . But the division was faced with a conundrum : The challenge was to grow the number of women participants by drawing from a small pool of women who were already here .
This meant that , while there were a handful of experienced divisional players , many of the women who were given spots in the deftly-dubbed Women ’ s Pro Division were novice and inexperienced players who would need a good deal of coaching and grooming . Naturally , this meant a slower pace of the game , and an outcry about players with low rankings taking the title of Pro .
Spectators have given the division mixed reviews . Some have enjoyed the slower pace of play , stating that it actually makes the game easier to watch . Others have called it outright painful . But regardless of the public sentiment , it cannot be denied that the players have grown in both skills and in notoriety . League standouts such as Jen Faulk of the Heriones and the Blanco sisters , Andreina and Gerkary , from Destiny have firmly positioned themselves as embassors for the league and for the sport as a whole .
