Mayhem from Germany . There was not a lot ( ok , zero ) intel on this group so no one knew what to expect from them .
The Games
The first game of the Open Ten-Vs-Ten saw BTA Butchers win a close one against the Farm and we were off and running . BTA Butchers went on to win seven of their eight preliminary round game , losing only to the All Americans . And as stacked as the All Americans roster was , it ’ s still a surprise when a team runs the table in the eight-game preliminary rounds — and that ’ s exactly what they did . The Farm won six of their games , losing only to BTA Butchers and the All Americans . No other team won five or more of their first-round games . Secret Society , IB Hydra , Resurrection , Annihilators and Lockout each won four .
Half of the twelve-team Open Division made the cut and moved onto the quarterfinals or semifinals by way of an earned bye . In the quarters The Farm beat Resurrection and Secret Society beat IB Hydra .
In the semifinals BTA Butchers put a twominute beatdown on The Farm and the All Americans won their game against Secret Society in a close game .
In the finals the All Americans put the hammer down on BTA Butchers , winning in less than five minutes , running the table from start to finish to take first place . The Farm won their battle for first place against Secret Society .
Open Seven-Vs-Seven , Mounds Field
Extreme Rage once again fielded a starstudded lineup including players like
Dave “ Weez ” Cook , Chris Hudson , Manny Francia , Spesh Robinson , Aaron Tholey and Aaron Rios to name a few . And they were coached by a guy you may have heard of — Todd Adamson . And it showed on the field .
Extreme Rage and Doc ’ s Raiders each won all but one of their preliminary round games . Juggernauts and Philippines each won six of their eight first round games . Docs , Extreme Rage and Philippines all won their quarterfinal round games but this was the end of the line for Juggernauts . In the semifinals Extreme Rage beat Requiem and Philippines sent Doc ’ s Raiders home early .
The finals saw the more experienced team in Extreme Rage facing off the redhot Philippines . It was Extreme Rage that would come out on top , to win yet another mounds ball event . Requiem easily beat Doc ’ s Raiders to take third place .
Open Five-Vs-Five , Mounds Field
From the opening horn it seemed likely that Spread Eagle Tavern and Philippines had a puncher ’ s chance to meet in the finals . Both looked a cut above the rest of the field in the Open Five-Vs-Five competition . But then there were Schlactet Die Gebrmutter and the Florida Annihilators that were playing some good ball as well . Also it was great to see Maynards Armory from Ethiopia not only entering the event , but playing very well with four first round wins in six games .
In the end it was Philippines taking out Spread Eagle Tavern to win the Open Five-Vs-Five mounds fields event . Ethiopia ’ s Maynards Armory beat the Florida Annihilators in the consolation game for third place .
