The Mounds Field
Airball Killed The Wooodsball Star The resurgence of classic style tournament paintball can easily be traced back to one weekend in Pittsburgh , Pennsylvania . It was Tim Montressor ’ s original mounds fields redux at the Iron City Classic in 2017 that started it all . The Iron City Classic wasn ’ t the first old school style event since tournament woodsball went the way of the Saber-Toothed Cats in the late 1990s — but it was the catalyst of the movement . And since 2017 woodsball , mounds fields and other classic tournaments are being played everywhere , including the NXL World Cup .
Open Ten-Vs-Ten Mounds Field
Twelve teams entered the Open Ten-Vs- Ten Mounds-ball event . Looking at the roster construction of the 12 teams it was pretty obvious that the All Americans had the most classic paintball experience and probably the most talented roster in the field . Led by Frank Connell , Spesh Robinson , Hans Semelsberger , Tim Jenkins and Dave “ Weez ” Cook — all nearing 50 years old , the All Americans featured a very experienced roster mixed with a bunch of younger talent including Aaron Rios of the Saberwolves , Jude Gardner ( son of Adam Gardner ), Paul Everett and D-1 player Christian Collins . The only question here is , would the older ( average nearly 40 ) wear down at all as the event wore on .
Looking at the rosters of the remaining 11 teams was a little like reading the phone book for me . There was a nice mix of younger players ( as young as 19 years old ) and players in their 30s , 40s and 50s — but not a lot of names anyone would know . The wildcard team in all of this was St . Pauli
