When you consider the waves and upheaval that was created when the women came onto to the NXL scene this year , perhaps it was poetic that the inaugural season for the Women ’ s National Xball League would play out in Kissimmee under a hurricane . Amidst the storm , it was The Heroines who made history taking home the first-ever women ’ s championship trophy , and not without fanfare .
Perhaps the standout play of the event was made by the Heroines own Sobbe Glass who ran a five-pack on the Suricatos late on Saturday .
“ It was wild ,” teammate Alex del Mar said , reflecting on the play . “ It was maybe her second point of the day and she came out guns blazing . The plan was to send Sobbe down to the closet and I would come down the Dorritos , but when I got there the was no one left . The pits just went nuts .”
That play seemed to be indicative of the season for the league as a whole . Everything just came together for the Heroines .
“ Cup went really well ,” said Allison Cook of the Sacramento Diamonds . “ I feel like everyone placed exactly where they should .”
The top three teams in the tournament were the Heroines , Destiny , and the Femmes Fatale following the trend of all the season ’ s major events . The middle of the pack was filled out by the Dallas Vibe and the Sacramento Diamonds . Two international squads were represented in the field . A rather last minute team of women from Europe were put together to form the Shieldmaidens , and the women from Columbia , The Suricatos made the trip as well . botto Chesa
