Although it has happened in the past with Bob Long ’ s Ironmen , it ’ s extremely difficult to win a title without winning at least one event and placing in the majority of the others .
Coming into the 2021 NXL World Cup it was Edmonton Impact sitting atop the year-long Professional leaderboard with 490 points in 3 events — NXL Sunshine State Major ( 200 points / first place ), Mid Atlantic Major ( 186 points / 3rd place ) and Windy City Major ( 104 points / 10th place ). After three events this season Los Angeles Infamous stood in second place of the Professional division with 480 points . And in third place coming into World Cup it was San Diego Dynasty with 477 points . Houston Heat ( 446 points ) and San Antonio X-Factor ( 428 points ) held

Essentially World Cup placings would determine the three-team race between Impact , Infamous and Dynasty of the 20 teams that played the Pro bracket this season .

The preliminary rounds definitely supported the theory that the title would be decided by one of only three teams , Edmonton Impact , San Diego Dynasty and Los Angeles Infamous .
