The Game
Jason is more of a weekend warrior only playing here in there,” he continued.“ IoN had been on our bucket list since it was still called D-day many years ago. Unfortunately, life kept getting in the way and we never got a chance to play an event.”
This year, George and Joe decided to stop talking and actually make IoN a reality. George said he did not regret it, and they are already planning to return next year.
“ I guess the main thing I keep telling people about ION is Joe and I have been playing Paintball for 25 + years. We have gone to multiple fields in the Midwest, East Coast, and Florida. And not a single field matches up to Skirmish,” he said.“ We were really impressed with the field layout and more impressed with the turnout. The hospitality [ the ] guys gave us made us feel like we have been playing together for many years, and the random players, we spoke on the field, and Allies were generally nice people.”
The same sentiment was expressed by Larson.“ We hail from Maryland but play all over,” she said.“ We are looking to return again next year and help John Lake and the Germans take home the victory.”
The Game
A number of changes were put into place this year that effected the flow of the game tremendously. First, the French made a comeback.
For many years, Invasion of Normandy featured a third element in the French. The role of the French team changed over the course of time, and by 2017, they were essentially a rogue element. Over the course of several seasons worth of ambushes, double-crosses, backstabbing, and betrayal between all of the parties, the bad blood was thick, and the French team laid out a mission famously known as‘ The Red Wedding’ in which they led representatives from both the Allied and the Axis leadership into the woods for a fake wedding, and then turned and shot everyone.
