Sposed Competition, anchored behind 21-year old Victoria Devillers, made its professional debut at the Czech Cup back in May, and returned to fight again at the British Invitational. Despite a rough start for this squad, they did show tremendous improvement, taking half of their matches down to a one-point margin. Expect to see this team coming together by the time the Euro Championships roll into Druex next month.
As for the remainder of the field, Belladonna surprised no one when they went undefeated through the prelims. After a disappointing performance at the European Championships in 2024, the ladies of Belgium came back and swept the 2025 series, and then started 2026 with yet another win in Czechia. Going into Sunday, it seemed that the theme would continue with the Norwegian Drakaina and Karma of Spain fought for the number two spot.
But Drakaina proved they are hungry. After dominating the 2023 season, they have not held another gold medal, and they were ready for it. At this event, they made a statement in the semifinals with a solid 5-0 win over Karma. And they rolled that energy over. They stayed patient through the finals match, and were finally able to capitalize on Belladonna’ s mistakes.
After a methodical match, it was Drakaina who walked away with a 4-2 win for gold.
