On July 24-27, Hell Survivors in Hell, Michigan was host to a revolutionized version of an old, staple game that players have been anticipating for more than a year: Monster Game.
With a new writer and producer in the form of co-owner Marie Butler, the game took on a new lease in life- or death, as it were. A four-day game and event, Monster Game has lived up to its reputation for nearly a decade. Renowned for its BYOP policy, the event now draws a significant audience of scenario ballers in the Midwest, and slowly is becoming another“ see and be seen” event on the Summer calendars across the US and Canada.
This year, the monster in“ Monster Game” was a reference to more than just the scale of the event, it became a glowup component of the theme. The teams were the Red Dracula, and the Green Frankenstein, and by embracing the mega-haunt / HHA cross-over that Marie and her husband Byron have brought to the property at Hell Survivors, the immersiveness of the experience went to another level.
At the main stage last season, a dramatic video introducing Monster Game Resurrected for 2025. Despite the technical difficulties of legend and lore, the audience received the message and anticipation really did build amongst the community. Shortly thereafter Josh“ Goya” Rodriguez of Apex Predators was announced as Frankenstein himself, commander of the Green team, and assigned an XO in Kristopher“ Shithouse” Burge. As the home team, Goya jumped out ahead on the recruitment curve.
