The WNXL ( Women ’ s National Xball League ) got underway with a bang . Norway ’ s Drakaina , last year series winners , went undefeated here in Portugal in their opening round with three straight wins . Belladonna , who finished in second place in last year final ranking , won two of their three preliminary round games , losing only to Drakaina 4-3 .
In the semifinals Belgium ’ s Belladonna put a beatdown on Karma 5-0 . Drakaina did exactly the same to HBI W . This set up a finals round between last season ’ s two best women ’ s teams , Belladonna and Drakaina . And unlike last season Belladonna would come out on top with a 3-1 victory .
In the Semiprofessional division France ’ s Indians and Toulouse Purple were the only two teams to win their four preliminary round games . Pimp Squad Cologne , Portugal ’ s SI Benfica ,
Sweden ’ s HBI , Stockholm Ignition , Ballistics Goettingen and France ’ s Jobar team each won three of four in the opening rounds .
In the quarterfinals Ugly Ducklings beat the previously undefeated Indians 1-0 in what was one of the slowest moving game you ’ ll ever see . Ballistice Goettingen knocked off Toulouse Purple , Stockhome Ignition beat Jobar Team and the home team SI Benfica easily handled by Pimp Squad 4-1 .
The crowd on hand got to see the home team , SI Benfica make it all the way to the finals where they would meet the underdogs Ballistics Goetingen . But it was the underdogs that would come out on top as Ballistics Goettingen beat SI Benfica 3-2 .
